*Applicants must indicate whether or not their work experience is journey-level.* Facilities Development & Operations (FD&O) is comprised of four primary departments: Planning Design & Construction (PDC); Maintenance & Operations (M&O); Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S); and Administrative Services (AS). SJSU is comprised of a main campus, a south campus, and a center at Moss Landing. In total, the facilities inventory comprises approximately 6M square feet of buildings on approximately 160 acres of land, with a staff of approximately 240 facility professionals comprised of managers, engineers, architects, administrative staff, journeymen, groundskeepers, custodians, and others. FD&O blends industry best practice, energy efficiency, and University Sustainability efforts to proudly serve our diverse campus community. Responsible for providing the full range of skilled plumbing work including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems, to ensure a clean, safe and attractive learning environment. Position makes decisions based upon sound maintenance practices. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Performs various types of preventive maintenance including: starting/stopping equipment, general cleaning, removing/installing serviceable parts, and lubricating. --Identifies problems and needed repairs. Completes necessary repairs to plumbing, fixtures, and related equipment as requested by work orders. Uses hand and power tools for the completion of plumbing fixtures, installations, related repairs, installation/removal of parts and hardware. Inspects plumbing, related equipment, systems, and areas to identify problems and needed repairs. Disables and clearly identifies (lock out and tag out) unsafe equipment, and immediately notifies appropriate personnel. Reports problems and needed repairs to be documented and scheduled. Unlocks and secures facility areas to access equipment and items to be repaired and/or maintained. Consults and works with other trade workers, as needed, for completion of repairs and remodels. Operates utility cart, pick-up truck, torches, welding equipment, scissor lift, and forklift (as certified) to access, repair and transport personnel and/or equipment. Records work details in log sheets, and keeps time records to assists in completion of documentation. Uses computer for communication, for research of parts and associated equipment, documentation of job specific details and recording time logs. Responds promptly to and assists with urgent needs in order to prevent injury, damage or further incident. Maintains clean work areas, tools, equipment and associated structures. Uses protective equipment as required for personal safety.
